What is JUPEB? All you need to know

I get this question alot from parents and students alike. Well, that goes to show that JUPEB is still not as popular as other university admissions examinations board like JAMB or IJMB. As a matter of fact, IJMB is only popular up north. Many students in the south haven’t heard about it, even though it was established as far back as 1976. For many, the only way they know in gaining admissions into the university is via JAMB.

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is a national examinations body. It was approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria on 30 December, 2013. Formally established on April 4, 2014 by a consortium of 10 partnering Nigerian universities, it is regulated by a Governing Board under the Chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos.

The Board has the responsibility of conducting common and standard examinations for candidates, who have been exposed to a minimum of one-year approved courses in the different Universities’ Foundation or Diploma Programmes, and are seeking Direct Entry admissions into University courses at the 200 Level in Nigerian and partnering foreign universities.
